Since December 7, three Trieu Family Dental Clinics, located on 437 West Chew Avenue, 5427 North 5th Street and 6536 Woodland Avenue, were closed by the Philadelphia Health Department due to unsanitary conditions. Investigators found that the staff of the clinics were reusing needles and practiced improper cleaning procedures in the sterilization of dental equipment. Due to these unsanitary practices, up to 1,500 patients may have been exposed to hepatitis B, hepatitis C, and HIV. It can take a year for symptoms to arise.
The Philadelphia Health Department recommends patients at any of the Trieu Family Dental Clinic locations to get tested immediately.
