A 31-year-old Florida man who suffered a mild\ntraumatic brain injury when he was struck by a car while riding his bicycle in\nMiami Beach, Fla., in November of 2017 received a $6 million settlement for his\ninjuries.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The victim, Andy Introini, was struck\nby the car<\/a> on Nov. 8, 2017, while he was riding his bicycle across the\nintersection of 21st<\/sup> Street and Collins Avenue when the driver of\nthe car made a high-speed right turn and smashed into the bicyclist, according\nto an April 15 story on Law.com<\/em>. <\/p>\n\n\n\n Introini, a construction\nworker, struck the windshield of the 2018 Porsche 911 and then was slammed onto\nthe street, striking his head on the tarmac, the story reported. Introini sued\nthe driver of the car, Raymond H. Maroon Jr., alleging that Maroon didn’t look\nproperly before turning in the intersection. <\/p>\n\n\n\n The cyclist was unable\nto remember being struck, so his attorney visited the scene and videotaped\nstatements from two independent eyewitnesses who separately confirmed\nthat Introini had the right of way and was moving slowly, the story\ncontinued. The plaintiff’s attorneys deposed the driver, Maroon, who\nadmitted he hadn\u2019t seen Introini until the moment of the crash.<\/p>\n\n\n\n After the crash, Introini\ninitially lost consciousness at the scene and had blood trickling from his\nleft ear, which are signs of a traumatic brain injury, the report continued.\nThe victim was taken to Jackson Memorial Hospital in Miami Beach where he\nunderwent several scans and was diagnosed with facial nerve, shoulder and spine\ninjuries.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Introini underwent follow-up\nCT and MRI scans, which showed that trauma to his right temporal lobe and\ncentral nervous system remained, the story reported. He also reported having\ntrouble concentrating, memory lapses, dizzy spells, headaches, pain and loss of\nbalance and a doctor\u2019s report linked irreversible injuries with the\ncollision.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Signs of mild brain injury\nwere found through Diffusion Tensor Imaging, which is a neuroimaging technique\nthat gives insights into brain network connectivity, the story reported.
