A 62-year-old California woman who was seriously\ninjured when the car she was driving was violently T-boned by a delivery truck\nwhich ran a red light early one morning in 2017 has been awarded a $6.126\nmillion jury verdict in connection with the case.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The\nvictim, Chung Wu Hsu, was driving her 1998 Lexus ES300 eastbound on Newhall\nRanch Road at Copper Hill Drive in Los Angeles County on July 5, 2017, when her car was T-boned<\/a> by a delivery truck owned by R & P Food Processing Inc.,\naccording to an Oct. 7 story by The\n(Santa Clarita Valley) Signal<\/em>\nnewspaper.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Hsu was\nproceeding through the intersection on a green light when the box truck, which\nwas was being driven by Moises Roberto Martinez Diaz, ran a red light\nand smashed into her car, the story reported. Diaz allegedly dozed off as he\ndrove the truck just before the crash.<\/p>\n\n\n\n The\nvictim suffered serious and permanent injuries in the violent crash, including\ntrauma to her cervical spine, multiple rib fractures and a traumatic brain\ninjury, the report continued. <\/p>\n\n\n\n Diaz\nallegedly admitted to the investigating officer at the scene that he was “half-asleep\u201d\nwhen the incident occurred, the story continued. Hsu was awarded $275,000 for past economic\ndamages, $851,000 for future economic damages, $1 million in past non-economic\ndamages and $4 million in future non-economic damages to compensate her for her\nserious and debilitating injuries. And because the defendants rejected an offer\nfrom the plaintiffs in December 2017 to settle the case for $1 million, the verdict\nis subject to prejudgment interest of 10% per year.
