{"id":7805,"date":"2019-11-23T12:57:37","date_gmt":"2019-11-23T17:57:37","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.myphillylawyer.com\/?p=7805"},"modified":"2019-11-23T12:59:01","modified_gmt":"2019-11-23T17:59:01","slug":"car-accident-lawyer-reaches-1-9m-settlement-for-severely-hurt-driver-whose-car-was-struck-by-a-dui-driver","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.myphillylawyer.com\/yue\/2019\/11\/23\/car-accident-lawyer-reaches-1-9m-settlement-for-severely-hurt-driver-whose-car-was-struck-by-a-dui-driver\/","title":{"rendered":"Car Accident Lawyer Reaches $1.9M Settlement for Severely Hurt Driver Whose Car Was Struck By a DUI Driver"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">A Connecticut woman who suffered serious injuries in April 2018 when a car being driven by a drunk driver smashed into the side of her car has reached a $1.9 million settlement in the case.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The plaintiff, Loreta Vaichus, 58, of\nWoodbury, Connecticut, was driving her Toyota Corolla on Spring Road in\nMiddlebury, Connecticut, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.law.com\/ctlawtribune\/2019\/06\/11\/middlebury-attorney-clinches-1-9m-settlement-with-restaurant-after-fatal-dui-crash\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">when\nher car was struck<\/a> by a BMW being operated by Christina Robinson, a\nwaitress at The Good News Caf\u00e9, who had just left work, according to a June 11\nstory by the <em>Connecticut Law Review<\/em>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Robinson\nwas driving east on Middlebury Road near the intersection of Spring Road when her\nBMW entered the westbound lane and smashed into the passenger side of Vaichus&#8217;\nToyota, killing Robinson instantly and causing spleen, liver and kidney\ninjuries to Vaichus, the story reported.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Vaichus&#8217;\nattorney filed a lawsuit in September of 2018 against the restaurant and bar where\nRobinson worked, alleging negligence due to Robinson being able to drink at the\nbar after working her shift and then driving home. Vaichus&#8217; attorneys argued\nthat employees should have not been permitted to remain at the business after\ntheir shift to drink and become intoxicated, the story continued. Police reports\nsaid Robinson had traces of marijuana in her system and a blood alcohol level\nof 0.16, the story noted. The legal BAC limit in Connecticut is 0.08.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Vaichus&#8217; spleen had to\nbe removed due to the severity of her crash injuries and she also suffered from\nbleeding of the brain and fractures of her left arm, left wrist, ribs and\npelvis, the story reported.
