Truck Accident Lawyer Helps Victim Get $2.5M Crash Settlement After He Was Seriously Injured When He Was Struck by a Winter Storm Sand Truck

A Long Island, N.Y. man who was seriously injured when a box truck he was driving was struck by a municipal snowplow and sanding truck in 2013 has reached a $2.5 million settlement with the local government where the crash occurred.
The victim, Danny J. Miller, was driving his work box truck on Long Beach Road at West Windsor Parkway in Hempstead, N.Y., on Feb. 3, 2013, when a Hempstead town employee drove a snowplow and sanding truck through a red light and crashed into Miller’s truck, according to a Nov. 19 story on Newsday.com.
Miller was driving his work truck to a job in Oceanside, N.Y., when the crash occurred in the middle of a four-way intersection when the plow truck driver attempted to make an illegal U-turn, the story reported. It was not snowing, but the plow truck was sanding the roadway when the crash occurred.
The collision left Miller seriously hurt with several orthopedic injuries and a subsequent stroke due to blood clots, which has limited his ability to speak and caused neurological impairments, the story reported.
A Nassau County State Supreme Court civil trial found the town of Hempstead 100 percent liable for the crash and for Miller’s injuries, then offered a $2.5 million settlement, which was accepted. The money is being paid for through a $2.5 million bond.
